Congratulations! You Have Successfully Executed A Movie Talk! Now What?

Laura Abuhl, Spanish, Williston Trinity Christian School

This past summer we explored the use of short videos to engage learners and provide lots of Comprehensible Input. In this session, we will review what was covered this summer before moving on. Then participants will learn about several extensions that not only provide the novelty that your students’ brains require, but also provide the valuable repetition of vocabulary and structures to make it all stick. Come prepared to participate as if you were a student. If possible, bring a laptop and your best running shoes!

Brain Breaks in the Language Classroom

Sindy Larson, French, Grand Forks Central High School

Come learn how to use brain breaks to boost engagement. In this session, participants will actively engage in brain breaks as they learn about the science and benefits of using them as a classroom management tool. Finally, participants will leave with a list of brain breaks to take back and use with their students. This session will hopefully induce spontaneous laughter, spur flashbacks to childhood, decrease boredom and improve your mood.

Circle Locution

Pam Fisher, Spanish, Grand Forks Central High School

Arrange your students in circles and get them talking! This session will provide ideas that are appropriate for all levels of Foreign Language classes to encourage student speaking and listening.

Spice Up Your Daily Intro Routine

Laine Martinez, Spanish, Bismarck High School

How do you start your class each day? This session will demonstrate techniques to engage your students right from the start. A ready to use PowerPoint for Spanish teachers, and an editable PowerPoint for all other languages will be provided. There is also a special spin on the popular trend of The Elf on The Shelf that will be shared!
